chart of accounts

I have a company with a very extensive chart of accounts – hundreds. I have restructured one company into three. I want to add a common digit to the beginning of each account number without re-keying all these accounts. Can I export the account numbers, append the leading digit and re-import the account numbers?

  1. It would appear you can do this by exporting the Chart of Accounts as an IIF file:

Make a backup copy of the target company (in case you don’t like the results)

In the source company select File/Utilities/Export/Lists to IIF and select the COA. This creates an IIF file.

In the target company select File/Utilities/Import/IIF and import that file.

Once it’s exported, you can edit the file in Excel with a find/replace. It appears that the file is delimited with colons.

Then just re-import it (see the first forum post).

Sorry, I haven’t tried it fully myself
